It’s that time of year again and the Noon Chapter of Mesquite Rotary is putting together its 8th Annual Glow in the Dark Golf Ball Drop & Block Party set for Saturday, November 1 from 4 – 6:30 p.m. at the Brickyard Plaza, 355 W Mesquite Boulevard.
However, beginning at 3 p.m. there will be a Car Show, featuring models from all eras and DJ Jonathon Hummel will be providing tunes throughout the evening.
Eureka’s Top Chef, Scott McGlinchey, will be the Certified Judge on hand for the Big Chili Cook-off, which will offer first and second place awards as well as people’s choice for both the Car Show and Chili Cook-off. Anyone interested in participating in the Car Show or Chili Cook-off may call 702-346-7025. Entries for the Car Show are $15 while the Chili Cook-off is $10 and both will be accepted through 5 p.m. on October 31. Winners of each contest will be awarded a plaque and prize
And as if that wasn’t enough to keep the family busy, the Rotary has even more planned.
This year, there will be several groups from Mesquite that will have booths set up. Each one will also have a wheel, where prizes can be won throughout the night. Just spin the wheel and perhaps win a prize.
“This is going to be a really fun year,” said Jeff Bird, one of the organizers with the Rotary. “It’s going to be like a carnival, bringing even more fun to an already exciting event!”
There will also be a Patriotic Art Contest from students from the 5th Grade classes at Virgin Valley Elementary and Beaver Dam Elementary Schools. The lucky winner will get their 15 minutes of fame at an assembly during school.
The grand finale of the night will be after dark when hundreds of golf balls are dropped and nine lucky winners will walk away with a multitude of prizes donated by area businesses. Two balls are just $25, while one can buy 10 balls for $100, increasing their chances of winning greatly.
All monies raised during the event will be given back to the community through local youth charities, the Virgin Valley Food Bank and other projects the Rotary has lined up for the next few months.
