At approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, Aug. 6, 2014, a father and his two sons escaped serious injury when their SUV struck a guardrail as they approached Exit 122 on Northbound Interstate 15.

MLN-Wreck2july14-14Despite the significant damage to their Jeep Cherokee, the family members were able to extricate themselves from the vehicle prior to the arrival of Mesquite Fire Units and refused Medical assistance from Paramedics.  The driver of the vehicle reported that he fell asleep at the wheel and was awakened by his father yelling at him, but he was unable to avoid the guardrail.  Mesquite Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind everyone to always wear your seatbelt and only drive when you are well rested.  According to, here are some signs that should tell a driver to stop and rest:

■         Difficulty focusing, frequent blinking, or heavy eyelids

■         Daydreaming; wandering/disconnected thoughts

■         Trouble remembering the last few miles driven; missing exits or traffic signs

■         Yawning repeatedly or rubbing your eyes

■         Trouble keeping your head up

■         Drifting from your lane, tailgating, or hitting a shoulder rumble strip

■         Feeling restless and irritable
