The Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog season ended abruptly Thursday afternoon in the Southern 1-A Region softball tournament with a loss to the Roadrunners from TECH High School 14-7.

The game was tied at one run a piece after two innings of play before the Road runners blew the game wide open with 9 runs in the top of the third.

The Dawgs led by the hitting of Janella Fiso and Adri Wakefield responded with four runs of their own in their half of the third to cut the deficit to 10-5. The Roadrunners added two runs in the sixth and seventh inning to take a 14-5 advantage. The Bulldogs attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh inning but fell short scoring two runs.

The Bulldog season record fell to 11-21 overall but 7-5 in important league play.

Early in the season Bulldog coach Travis Griffith said he loaded the early schedule with tough opponents to gain experience for his young squad. The ploy worked as his young team responded late in the season.

The Bulldogs will return pitcher Becca Bramlage and hard hitting third baseman Fiso and a slew of underclassman next year. Freshman Wakefield should benefit with a year under her belt.
