WALK WITH GOD
Many people today are dedicated to fitness through strength training, Zumba, swimming, and walking. This involves commitment to overcome those times when we just don’t “feel like it”.
The same can be said of our walk with God. There are times we feel great joy, passion, and excitement about being a Christian. Most of us began our walk with God as new Christians with those emotions. Then one day something happened: job loss, health loss, wealth loss. We throw up our hands and say, “That’s it! This isn’t fun anymore. I’m done walking with God!”
The Bible does not say we shall live by feelings. It says we shall live by faith. Romans 1:17. Feelings change but walking consistently with God takes faith and commitment.
In the Bible there was a man named Enoch who walked with God. Sometimes we get sidelined by something as simple as a broken fingernail, but Enoch walked with God in the most difficult and wicked times in history: Just before the world-wide flood of Noah.
So, what set Enoch apart. How was he able to live a Godly life in an ungodly world?
- What does it mean to “walk with God”? It is not simply living by rules and regulations which we quickly break. Amos 3:3 Can two people walk together except they be agreed. The idea is of 2 people moving in rhythm together as on a bicycle built for two. This is not about getting God in rhythm with us. It is getting ourselves in rhythm with God.
- His testimony pleased God. Hebrews 11:5 says “Without faith it is impossible to please God”. Every Christian has a testimony. People are watching us. That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending upon our actions and words.
- Enoch was a witness for God. In the most wicked time in world history, Enoch stayed faithful and true to the one and only God in Heaven. Before we can effectively witness for God, we must walk with God.
I opened with an illustration of people trying to improve or at least keep their physical strength. To do so one must be consistent, committed, and dedicated.
Psalm 18:2 says, The Lord is my strength in Whom I will trust.
As we walk with God, we will seek to know more and more of how we can:
Best Serve Him
How we can please Him
How we can walk consistently with Him.
Walk with you; no strength is lost
