Carlos H. Ramirez, age 76, a resident of Mesquite of 28 years, passed away while on vacation in Mazatlán, Mexico on October 28, 2025, after being hospitalized for three weeks. He was born in Houston, Texas to Henry G. and Mary Alice Ramirez, the oldest of five children. The family moved to San Bernardino in 1963 where Carlos attended San Bernardino High School, lettering in football and wrestling, and Valley College. He moved to Salt Lake City in the early 1970s and began his career as a meatcutter, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. He retired several years ago from Smith’s Grocery Store in Mesquite as a dedicated meat department manager, and where he ultimately met his beautiful wife. His employees thought the world of him.
Throughout his life, Carlos loved the outdoors and was an avid stream fisherman, bicycle racer, marathon runner, and an 8-handicap golfer! He was also a long-time fan of the Oakland Raiders (from Oakland-Los Angeles-Oakland) and one of the original season ticket holders at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Carlos is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Vickie, sons Ryan Ramirez (Shelia), Rodney Ramirez (DeAnna), stepsons Stephen Iverson (Shauna), Scott Iverson (Karen) and stepdaughters Lisa Maldonado (Steven), Stacey Frost (Cory), and Jennifer Iverson (Jon Engle).
Known as “Grandpa” to 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, he was adored and looked up to by all his family and friends.
Carlos is also survived by his brothers Henry Ramirez (Shauna) Rialto, CA, Marion Ramirez (Jody) Fremont, CA, Ric Ramirez (Theresa) St. George, UT, and sister, Cindy Ramirez (Alan Magnone) Los Osos, CA.

Rest in Peace, dear Carlos. Thank you for your patience, kindness, non-judgmental, and loving way. You helped divide our sorrows and multiply our joys! Someone once said you never get a chance to meet your heroes. We did by having Carlos as son, husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend!

Rest peacefully Sir. Your voyage around the sun is over. Our Lord will guide you to eternity.
I wish I could remember the year that my cousin Carlos brought his Dad, my Tio Henry, to Houston to come see his sister, Angelita Ramirez Flores, my Mom. Although Mom was in the mid-stages of Alzheimer’s, she recognized her brother and was very happy to see him. Actually, when Carlos and Tio Henry arrived in Houston, they called me to find out where we were. Mom had suffered a health emergency, so we were at an urgent care clinic. Carlos said, give me the address. Within a short while, Carlos and Tio were there sitting with us at the clinic waiting for Mom to be seen. Although it had been years since I had seen Carlos, and we didn’t really grow up together because they had moved to CA, he was still the Carlos I remembered: Kind, thoughtful, soft-spoken, caring, and very loving. Oh, and not to mention–handsome! I feel like I missed someone who would have been very important in my life by us living so far from each other. But, from that visit forward, we starting communicating by phone. Not often, but often enough to let each other know we loved each other. Yes, I have regrets for not having made the drive to UT–where he was now living–to visit he and his lovely wife Vickie, but I also have this memory to cherish–of him coming to Houston to see my Mom. Rest in Peace, dear Cousin, until we see each other again–all of us!!! Love, your cousin, Rina
Carlos H. Ramirez’s life journey from Houston to Mesquite is truly inspiring. His dedication to his career as a meatcutter, mirroring his family’s legacy, showcases a strong work ethic and commitment to tradition.
I appreciate the heartfelt remembrance of Mr. Ramirez. His legacy reminds me of my grandfather, who also had a profound impact on our community. What inspired his passion for helping others? It would be interesting to learn more about that aspect.
