Sign ups under way for VVES SafeKey program

Registration is now open for the Virgin Valley Elementary School SafeKey program, an after-school program that provides a safe, monitored environment for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.

The staff will assist with homework, offer fun learning activities, a snack and time to socialize and have fun.

In-person registration is available at the Mesquite Recreation Center, 100 W. Old Mill Road. Children must be registered and have a parent information form completed prior to attending SafeKey, regardless of previous registration or attendance.

SafeKey will begin after school in the VVES lunchroom and conclude at 6:15 p.m.

There are two payment options: a 20-day punch pass for $100 or a 10-day punch pass for $50. School starts on Aug. 11.

Youth flag football season signups slated

The Mesquite Athletics  and Leisure Services Department will offer a youth flag football league in September.

Registration deadline is Aug. 18.

Games will be played Tuesday and Thursday evenings between Sept. 4-30.

For the 4-5 year old division, games will be played at 5:15 or 6 p.m.; for ages 6-8, games will be at 6 or 6:45 p.m.; and for ages 9-11, games will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Cost is $55 for members and $60 for non-members.
