A Mesquite No Kings Visibility Event was held on Saturday morning. It was a peaceful protest and morale boosting event with the purpose of surfacing the concerns of many that the rule of law is not currently being followed in the US (habeas corpus, posse comitatus). The participants want a government that follows the rule of law, the constitution, and the will of the American people. There were over 2100 No Kings events held both nationally and internationally, including in Canada where the protests were renamed “No Tyrants” in recognition of their own sovereign. In Mesquite, over 220 people signed up in Mobilize to attend this protest, with many attending who did not sign up. The estimated crowd count by the organizers was between 250 and 285 total participants, which was the largest visibility event held in Mesquite this year.

The official statement at the No Kings website regarding this event is as follows:

“In America, we don’t do kings. 

This administration has broken the law, defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services. The corruption has gone too. far. No thrones. No crowns. No kings.

On June 14—Flag Day—President Trump wanted tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle meant to look like strength. But real power isn’t staged in Washington. It rises up everywhere else. No Kings is a nationwide day of defiance. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism—and show the world what democracy really looks like.

We’re not gathering to feed his ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind. The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us. We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it.

On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t—to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”

The organizers of the local No Kings event hope that the Mesquite event will give moral support to the many people who are already being impacted by the policies being put in place since January 2025. They are aware, that people in our communities, specifically minorities and immigrants, are frightened now.  The organizers and participants want these communities to know that people are out to support them and their own efforts to protect themselves from the legally questionable activities that have been happening at the national level.

The local organizers are also hoping that the local and national protests will be a catalyst for people to act on issues that are of concern to them.   Information was provided to participants in the event on actions that can be taken to make a difference. It was announced at the event that the NO KINGs organization wanted participants and everyone who might be interested in being involved in the future to text No Kings to 59798.

On a National Level participants at the event were asked to contact our two NV senators early the next week because the senate will be discussing the 2025 Authorization Bill which has been called the “Big Beautiful Bill”. Participants were asked to let our senators know that we support their stand against budget cuts for such programs as Medicaid and food assistance that are being planned to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. Participants were also asked to contact friends and family in the targeted states of Utah, Montana, and North Carolina to ask them to contact vulnerable Republican senators in these states, and let these federal representatives know their constituents don’t want tax cuts for billionaires, trillions of dollars in increases in the federal debt, and cuts to social safety net programs which help people who rely on them.

On the state level, participants were advised that although in Nevada there is a majority Democrat state legislature, this state has a governor who has vetoed more than 75 bills passed by the state legislature. The latest bill the governor has vetoed was one which would keep ICE out of the public schools. Participants were reminded Governor Lombardo is up for re-election in 2026, and it will be important to register to vote and to vote in November 2026.

The local event organizers believe that that corruption that has become a hallmark of our society is due to the fact that our public officials respond NOT to the needs of the most of the American people, but to the desires and greed of the 1% of the richest population.

As an example, the misinformation around the climate crisis was talked about. Participants were reminded that in most of the 300,000 years that man has inhabited the Earth, CO2 levels varied from 280 to 330 parts per million (ppm). The use of fossil fuels as the primary energy source since the Industrial era has raised CO2 levels to 430 ppm, a level that the planet has not experienced in millions of years. The increasing levels of CO2 have been proven by the scientific community to be causing an unacceptable and rapid warming of the planet. Most people are aware of this, and want action to be taken, but bad actors in the corporate world are influencing politicians to cancel renewable energy projects, with cancellation of projects included in the infamously named “big beautiful (budget) bill”.
