Mesquite residents took place in the nationwide “Hands Off” event, a peaceful protest organized by more than 70 progressive and other activist groups nationwide on April 5.

As of Friday evening, more than 1.5 million people from 1,200 communities have signed up with Hands Off! organizers to say they will show up locally Saturday in support of federal workers and to protest the fascist tactics being used against green card holders , destroying the economy, d not doing anything to stop climate change.  In Mesquite, 135 people signed up in mobilize to attend this protest.

This protest was the single biggest day of protests since Trump’s reelection.

“We’re here to  make a statement to this administration,” said Ann Bley, a Mesquite organizer. “We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to  take it. We’re going to fight this administration every step of the way.  This is America,  and we’re a democracy by the people and for the people, and we want to keep it that way no matter what Trump and his Project 2025 cronies have to say about it.

“I am hoping that this event will give moral support to the many people who are already being impacted by the draconian policies being put in place since January 2025.  People are frightened now.  We need them to know we’re out there, and we want to support them and the efforts they make to protect themselves from this administration.”

The Mesquite organizers hope this protest will lead to more protests in Nevada, including letting the legislature know what it would like to see passed in the current session that runs through June. 2.

Hands Off! Is a national mass activation in defiance of the Trump-Musk billionaire takeover and the Republican assault on our freedoms and our communities. Hands Off! is an all-in moment for the pro-democracy, pro-worker movement—a demand, a warning, and a rallying cry that responds to the primary reasons for our mobilization.

Whether you are mobilized by the attacks on our democracy, the slashing of jobs, the invasion of privacy, or the assault on our services—this moment is for you. We are setting out to build a massive, visible, national rejection of this crisis. Today with events in all 50 states and internationally, there are protestors in major cities and small towns in every state. Our goal is to show that the people—the majority—are taking action to stop
the corruption and power grab.
