St George Interfaith Council invites everyone to join their neighbors at the 15th annual CROP Walk on Saturday, November 9. This CROP Walk (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) is the main service project for many St George churches and is a wonderful opportunity for members of all churches to serve with neighbors of other faiths. The 2022 CROP Walk begins at 10 AM in Larkspur Park at the corner of Ft Pierce Drive and Larkspur Drive in Bloomington Hills. Registration begins at 9:30.
Reverend Jimi Kestin who leads Solomon’s Porch Foursquare Fellowship and whose Friday Pantry and “Sunday Feast” receives 25% of the CROP donations, offers that the “…CROP Walk…shows our community the amazing spirit of cooperation that the various faith groups have developed in Utah’s Dixie that transcends our religious differences. And secondly, it highlights the tremendous food insecurity, both right here in our community and worldwide.”
St George Mayor Michelle Randall and Washington City Mayor Kress Staheli will launch the walkers on their 6-mile walk. St George CROP Walks have raised $85,000+ to help feed hungry people in St George and throughout the world. Walkers will be treated on their walk by 4 refreshment tables provided by Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Solomon’s Porch Foursquare Fellowship, Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is the only hunger walk in America where walkers can gain weight.
Some come to donate, others just to be with the Interfaith Council and others come to walk. Walkers who go the entire distance will walk 6 miles on the St. George trails, which is the distance people in 3rd world countries walk each day to get food, water and work. Please come and serve with your neighbors.
