If anyone still believes the lie that our border with Mexico is secure, this true story of a recent event should convince them otherwise.

On May 16, Gianfranco Torres-Navarro, among thousands of others, crossed the border illegally. He presented himself to agents who immediately released him with a pretty-please request to appear for immigration proceedings. No real ID check. Essentially, he was issued a hall pass to roam the country on the promise he’d show up at the appointed time and place.
Then the country of Peru tells us that Mr. Torres-Navarro is the gang leader of “Los Killers” and wanted for 23 the killings in Peru. He is believed to be hiding the United States.
ICE thumbs through their hall pass Rolodex, finds Mr. Torres-Navarro, and apprehends him because he “poses a significant threat to our communities, and we won’t allow New York to be a safe haven for dangerous noncitizens.”
I love that characterization: “We won’t allow New York to be a safe haven for dangerous noncitizens.”
Won’t allow it?
Allowing it is is the system.
It does, in fact, turn every city in America from New York to Mesquite into safe havens for dangerous noncitizens.
The numbers of people flooding across the border without significant detainment. When Donald Trump was president, he made people go back to Mexico to await their immigration hearing. That was something, at least. The current administration, however, didn’t like that because, well, it had Trump’s name on it, so it went to the turnstile system of almost automatic admittance into the country.
Why stick with a system that can’t flag a notorious international crime boss like Gianfranco Torres-Navarro?
HEY THERE
There was a time when if a California governor told Nevadans what do, Nevadans would do just the opposite. But, apparently, our politics have grown closer to the state on the other side of the Sierras.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom last week sent a fundraising email to Nevadans asking them to kick in a few bucks to help boost turnout in Nevada for Question 6 and, in turn, help Democrats on the ballot.
He wrote this:
“Hey there,
“Gavin Newsom here, reaching out to ask if you can please make a contribution to Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom.
“Codifying the right to an abortion is on the ballot in Nevada this fall and they need our help.
“As a bonus, this ballot measure (called Question 6), has a chance to boost Democratic turnout in a way that will help us in the presidential race and the Senate race — both races we need to win in order to keep the White House and Senate.
“So please. Donate $3 or whatever you can. No amount is too small.”
Have so many Californians moved to Nevada that a plea from the California governor on a Nevada issue is now a smart play instead of the kiss of death?
CCM ATTORNEY GENERAL?
Axios reported last week that in a theoretical Kamala Harris administration Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto’s name has been bandied about for the position of attorney general. The senator, however, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that she is “more than happy” in her current position.
