Oasis Chiropractic defeated the Precision Eyecare team in dramatic fashion to win the Mesquite Merchants Men’s League title for the 2022-23 season.
After the grind of an 84-game season, these two teams put up the best record during the regular season and met for a roll-off of three games to see which team would get to hoist the championship trophy.
Amazingly, after the three games, both teams were tied requiring the equivalent of an overtime in football or basketball before a winner could be determined. And when the marathon nail-biter was finally, over the Oasis Chiropractic team of Maury Hardman, Jeff Branch, Wayne Donnafield and Ron Hendrickson emerged as league champions over a determined Precision Eyecare team comprised of Butch Loger, Denton Dorn, Robert Sedgley and Mike Dorn.
Dr. Leigh Rosessner has been a standout sponsor of her winning Oasis Chiropractic team in this league for 16 years, and Maury Hardman, a key member of her championship team has announced he will be hanging up his bowing shoes now that the season has ended.
Hardman, a standout bowler during his heyday on the lanes sports a resume which includes and eye-popping 13 300 games, a career-high 804 series on games of 267, 268 and 269, along with a career-high 210 average. After serving 20 years in the United States Air Force he took up bowling in a serious way by practicing 16 games every day for 8 months. And all that practice paid dividends as he was able to turn pro and competed in numerous PBA events, including on the Northwest Regional PBA Tour, and over the years competed against the likes of Brian Voss, Dave Ozzio and Norm Duke, and also competed in PBA events at the former Showboat in Las Vegas, and in one of the season’s actually won the Rookie of the Year Award at that venue.
Hardman will definitely be missed in league play at the Virgin River Bowling Center, but he will continue playing golf which he’s also pretty darn good at, and he’s been known to spend some time at the sports book at the Virgin River.
Meanwhile, in the Friday morning Ladies Trio League, the team of Ruth Reilly, Thanh Roth and Cindy Petersen won the league championship in convincing fashion.
And in the City High Rollers League, the team led by Maria Triston-Flynn along with Gayla Ruesch, Shaun Edwards and Frank Addamo emerged victorious after three games and winning the champion by 17 pins over a strong team of young bowlers led by Ricky Trujillo, and teammates Raul Macias, Ivan Trujillo and Anthony Ramirez. Both Tristan-Flynn’s 190 game and a clutch spare of a 3-6-7-10 split by Ruesch in the 10th frame of the third game proved to be the key difference in the narrow margin in victory in a close battle for the winning trophy.
In the Gamblers 4 Aces League, the Future of Bowling squad of Ashlee Yokoyama-Kesl, Miguel Munoz, Angel Hernandez and Sal Diaz captured the league championship of this Monday league.
