Detective Justin Cheney was selected as the Best of the Badge recipient for the month of December.
This is the third time Detective Cheney has received this award, which is a testament to his strong work ethic and positive impact he has on his co-workers.
Detective Cheney spent a good portion of December as OIC (Officer in charge) on his patrol shift. As OIC, he responded to an agency assist call from North Las Vegas for the deployment of stop sticks on Interstate 15 for a homicide suspect that fled from NLVPD.
Cheney coordinated the response of MPD officers to block off the freeway exits, and positioned others in multiple locations to deploy the stop sticks if the first attempt failed.
Cheney successfully deployed the stop sticks hitting all four tires, forcing the vehicle to come to a stop and allowing NLVPD to take the suspect into custody.
Officer Cheney also responded to a separate agency assist from LVMPD for a burglary in progress in Bunkerville. Officer Cheney located the suspect as he drove into Mesquite and conducted a high risk felony stop along with his squad mates.
They safely took the suspect into custody for LVMPD on felony charges.
