Rotary’s Mudd Volleyball Fun
That wet and wild fun Rotary Mudd Volleyball event is coming again Saturday, September 17th behind the Eureka Casino Resort. Four pits of dirty, muddy, sandy water will help cool teams off as they compete for a chance at winning a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place trophy.
Mesquite Rotary Club President Linda Gault said this year more fun will be added with teams encouraged to participate in a “Best Team Costume” Contest. Last year the Pampered Pooches team donned black shirts and tights with pink tutus and headbands having bobbles on them.
“That led me to decide that a costume contest would be a great addition to the activities this year,”Gault said. “So put on your thinking caps and come up with some fun outfits that wow the secret judges and win the prize!”
The competition begins with the traditional Police and Fire/EMTs playing to see which team wins the best 3 out of 5 games to either retain or gain control of the Traveling Trophy. The winning team receives the trophy making them the “Studds of The Mudd” for 2022 until they battle it out again next year.
“Our community supporters make all the difference – from the teams to the business sponsors,” Gault said. “Last year teams came from as far away as Boulder City and St. George to get dirty. Mudd Volleyball just keeps getting bigger and more popular each year.”
The Rotary Club continues to be highly successful finding ways to support our community.
Mesquite Rotary has added the Adopt-a-Highway Program along a 2-mile stretch of State Highway 170, a food drive to support the Salvation Army, annual blood drive, and the Breaking the Cycle Program supporting individuals breaking free of drugs/alcohol to their list of activities.
“In addition to the many programs we support presently, we will be working with multiple organizations on the planned Pollinator Garden at the end of south Grapevine, as well as supporting teachers at the Beaver Dam Elementary School this coming year,” Gault said.
As a worldwide organization, Rotary takes on many projects in other countries as well.
“This year Rotary was asked to help displaced people in Ukraine who have lost everything to war and poverty,” Gault said. “ Another program supported by local Rotary Clubs is Rotary International’s Rotoplast Program which sends physicians and Rotary members overseas to correct cleft palate deformities for children and burn victims with severe scarring. There is so much need everywhere and Rotary continues to serve in many different ways.”
Gault said that as with any event, Rotary is looking for volunteers to give a few hours of their time during the event as Judges, Referees and Scorekeepers. They don’t need previous experience and they are right there as the action is taking place. Or if someone is so inclined, help is always welcome setting up that morning and tearing down equipment after the final game has ended. Those interested in volunteering can contact one of their members or email the Mesquite Rotary at mesquiterotarynv@gmail.com.
For those wanting to join the fun, the cost remains the same with different levels of business sponsorships available. Individual teams of six participants are $210 which includes a t-shirt for each player. More information will be posted on Mesquite Rotary’s FaceBook. For those interested in playing, email the rotary for more information.
