MPD Detective Darin Wilkins Retires

Detective Darin Wilkins retired last week after 20 years with the Mesquite Police Department.

“I remember when Detective Wilkins was a School Resource Officer,” Captain Quinn Averett said. “He had a great report with the students and worked especially hard with the middle school aged students while teaching the DREAM program.”

Detective Wilkins served as a school resource officer for many years- during that time he implemented and improved programs for the students at Hughes Middle School.  He was assigned as a detective in 2016 and in 2018 was selected to join a multi-jurisdiction task force with the IRS. On top of everything else he’s done, Detective Wilkins also was assigned as the Rangemaster for the Mesquite Police Department overseeing the firearms training program for all MPD officers for the past several years.

“Detective Wilkins always had a positive outlook every day I saw him at work,” Sergeant Wyatt Oliver said.”He loved his job and it showed in the way he interacted with the public and other officers.”

The Mesquite Police Department said; Detective Wilkins has been an incredible asset to the Mesquite Police Department and all of Mesquite. He will be greatly missed but we wish him the best in his future endeavors!
