The VVHS Bulldog soccer team split two league games this past week. The Dawgs defeated the Eagles from Boulder City High 8-5 on Monday 8-5 and lost 4-0 to the Miners from Sunrise Mountain on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs came out strong with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. Bulldog Daven Baltazar took advantage of pinpoint passing from his teammates to hit the ‘Hat Trick’ (3 Goals) in the first half of play. The Dawgs took a 4-0 lead into the break. Despite great pressure from the Eagles on both sides of the ball, the Dawgs behind 3 goals off the foot of freshman Zach Trimming were victorious 8-5. “Were proud of our boys,” said assistant coach Jhonaton Pantelakis. “Were gaining more confidence and are playing team ball. We still have a lot of work to do, but the boys are up to it.” Adding goals and assists for the Dawgs were Tristan Klein, David Baltazar, Rivoldo Chavez and Erik Solorio.
In the loss to the Miners, the Dawgs could not get their offense in gear and the defense gave up two goals in each period losing 4-0.The Dawgs season record went to 3-3 but importantly their 2-1 record in league is an excellent start. The Dawgs continue league play on Tuesday Sept. 24 at Chaparral and face SLAM Academy on Sept. 26 hoping to improve on their record.
