Carol passed peacefully on July 19 at 91 years old. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and lived life to the fullest. She was born in Stony Plain, Alberta Canada on February 28, 1928. In her early life, she ran a dog team in the bitter cold of the Arctic. Later she joined the Canadian Navy allowing her to travel the world. In 1977, Carol moved to Overton, Nevada and called it home.
Carol was one of the first women to work on the North Slope of Alaska, at Prudhoe Bay. She helped build the Alaska Pipeline, as an ice road trucker, and worked to support 200 member drill teams and work camps.
Carol always believed in giving back to the community. After retiring from the North Slope in the mid 90’s, she moved to Mesquite, Nevada. Carol was very active in the Mesquite community where she sat on committees to better Mesquite; truly making a difference. She had a special love for the Fire and Police Departments as well as the Community and Senior Centers. She will be missed by all.
Carol was a tough bird. She was a good lady who voiced her opinion and that was that. She was one of the first to encourage a hospital for Mesquite. She enjoyed politics and was friendly. May She Rest in Peace.
Carol spent the early 90’s in the Moapa Valley. She and I had many conversations, political and idealogical. She had her opinions, and among them was that we should all share the load. She pushed hard in both valleys for the Hospital, and helped to make it a reality. She will be missed.
