Many songs have been written about farewells and goodbyes, but those melodies really

hit home as Virgin Valley High School Seniors in the Class of 2019 prepare for their parting musical performances this coming week.   Graduation is fast approaching as the talented members of the VVHS music department present their year-end concerts that are open to the community and free of charge.

Seniors Kate Baltazar and Erin Dunfree, seasoned guitarists, played their closing concert with the VVHS Guitar Group May 8 at the VVHS Student Center.  Kate has said, “Music has played a huge role in my life and I love it.  It has always been what I fall back on.”  Certainly, her thoughts are shared by others as they leave the close-knit group of VVHS musicians who pull together to play beautiful music.  Under the outstanding directorships of Mrs. Graf and Mrs. Palmer, all of these musicians have learned to work as teams, learned to excel, and learned to listen to others.  These concerts are their musical celebrations as the seniors leave VVHS to go on to play their own tune in the world.

The VVHS Band presents its Senior Showcase concert Wednesday, May 15 at 6pm in the

VVHS Auditorium.  The band, under the direction of music instructor Kendra Graf, sparks spirit and shows off extraordinary musical talent as they close out the year.  The band is an integral part of school activities throughout the year, displaying versatility in styles and rhythms.

The following evening, Thursday, May 16, the VVHS Orchestra and Choir present their “Finale” concert at the VVHS auditorium at 6:30p.  Director Marie Palmer leads these musicians, again spotlighting departing seniors.   The students deserve a “full house” audience for these final concerts of great songs, sung from the heart and played from the soul.

VVHS concerts are free of charge, with donations gratefully accepted to help defray cost of sheet music and other essential supplies that are not fully funded in the regular CCSD budget.  Contact VVHS at 702-346-2780 for more information about supporting the VVHS music department.
