The Virgin Valley High flag football team blanked rival Moapa Valley, 12-0, Thursday night in a 3A South Regional playoff game at rain soaked Evan Wilson Stadium.

The win sends the Lady Bulldogs (19-3 overall) into the 3A State semifinals where they will host Boulder City (12-6) Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 5:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the state title game to be held Thursday, Feb. 21, at Cimarron-Memorial High School in North Las Vegas.

Virgin Valley will be seeking to advance to its third consecutive 3A state championship game. VVHS has lost the previous two title contests to Cheyenne.

In Thursday’s other regional playoff games, Boulder City defeated Valley in overtime, 6-0; top-seeded Del Sol Academy romped past Mojave, 43-0, and Chaparral downed Sunrise Mountain, 13-6.

Del Sol Academy (18-4) will host Chaparral (11-7) in Tuesday’s other state semifinal contest.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the scoring against Moapa Valley in the second quarter when quarterback Ally Wright tossed a six-yard scoring pass to Taylor Marshall giving VVHS a 6-0 advantage.

Virgin Valley increased the margin to 12-0 in the fourth quarter when Nikita Eskelsen scored on a five-yard run to put the game out of reach. The victory was the fourth by the Lady Bulldogs over the Lady Pirates this season.

Julia Ramirez had a solid all-around game for the Lady Bulldogs. She led the team in rushing with 128 yards on 19 carries; led all receivers with two receptions for 35 yards and had two pass breakups along with two flag pulls on defense.

Vanessa Sandoval, Alley Shaner and Kiara Swanson had three flag pulls apiece to help the defense in blanking the Moapa Valley offense.
