Virgin Valley High School’s Lady Bulldogs broke even this week, defeating the Chaparral High School Cowboys 55-49 on Tuesday January 29 and falling 47-41 at Boulder City on Friday February 1. The Dawgs record stayed at 50% 3-3 in 3A Sunrise League play.

Lady Dog Alexis Boatright continued her strong play this season with 17 points leading the Bulldogs over the Cowboys. The Dawgs fell behind 18-12 in the first period but rallied in the second to tie the game 27-27. The teams battled evenly in the third period with the score at 38-38. The Lady Dogs upped their defensive pressure outscoring the Cowboys down the stretch 17-11 for the win. Point guard Nathalie Lagamayo added 13 points for the Bulldogs.

It was a game of hit and miss for the Lady Dogs in their game with the Boulder City Eagles Friday night. The Bulldogs raced out to a 16-8 advantage after one period but fell into a slump midgame allowing the Eagles to outscore them 34-12 in the mid periods to fall behind 42-28. The Bulldogs rally in the fourth period fell short as they lost 47-41. Areli Ponce and Boatright led the Bulldogs with 11 and 10 points respectively. The Lady dogs travel to Sunrise Mountain on Wednesday Feb. 6 before hosting Moapa Valley on Friday evening. The Bulldogs need to sweep both games to keep their playoff hopes alive.
