The City of Mesquite has been honored to have Troy Tanner serve as the Mesquite Police Department’s Police Chief over the last seven years.  Yesterday, Jan. 9, Troy Tanner announced his retirement.  During his tenure, Chief Tanner led the department through a complex period of high growth and multiple changes.

In June 1995, Chief Tanner started his law enforcement career in Mesquite.  His dedication and love of law enforcement work has been unwavering for over 23 years.  During his career, Chief Tanner served as a Patrol Officer, Canine Officer, Detective Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Police Chief.  Regarding his retirement, Chief Tanner stated; “I have been blessed in my life to have a career which I have always considered a calling.  Over the past decades, I have built many cherished memories and will always remember them as the best years of my life.”

“All of us who have had the opportunity to work side-by-side with Chief Tanner wish him the very best as he begins this new chapter in his life,” remarked City Manager Andy Barton.  “We consider him to be more than just a coworker, but also a friend.”

City Manager Barton has appointed Mesquite Police Captain MaQuade Chesley to serve as the Interim Police Chief.  The police department’s new Chief of Police will be appointed by the Mesquite City Council in the near future.

We ask our community members to join us in extending our best wishes to Chief Tanner and his family and thank him for all of his service and sacrifices he has given to keep our city safe.
