The Virgin Valley High School’s run ended Wednesday Nov. 1 as the girls soccer team fell to the Western High School Warriors 4-3 in the semifinals of the 3A Southern Division playoffs. Lady Bulldog striker Rainee Brito continued to dominate scoring for the Dawgs with another ‘Hat Trick’. Brito hit goal in the first half to give the Dawgs a 1-1 tie and added two more goals in the second period. Her three goals were not enough as the Warriors hit goal three times in the period for the win. Bulldogs Jayde Tafilii, Raeanna Slack, and Natalia Zarate had an assist each. The Bulldogs ended conference play with an 8-2 record. The Bulldogs soccer future looks great as the Dawgs will return the bulk of their squad next season. In addition to sophomores Brito and Tafilii and freshman Slack and Zarate, the Dawgs will return freshman goalkeeper Erin Ofori, freshman Jaymie Hulet, three year starter Ally Wright plus 26+ players off this year’s varsity and JV squads. Coach Scott Trimming said earlier in the season that his team would consist of 30 plus players with all giving the opportunity to start during the season. The experience his young freshman and sophomores gained this year will be invaluable in years to come. Congratulations to the Bulldog soccer players for reaching the playoffs this year.
