The Virgin Valley High volleyball team went the distance in outlasting visiting Sunrise Mountain, 3-2, Wednesday evening at the VVHS gymnasium.
The Lady Bulldogs won by scores of 25-17, 18-25, 25-20, 25-27 and 15-9. VVHS is now 1-5 in Sunrise League play and 3-22 overall while the loss dropped Sunrise Mountain to 1-5 in league and 2-13 overall.
Sydney Ludvigson recorded 27 assists, nine digs and three service aces to pace the Lady Bulldogs while Areli Ponce had 10 digs, five kills and two aces. Alyssa Ponce added 14 digs.
Jaylee Whipple had a solid game for VVHS with seven kills, two blocks, two digs and two aces. Nathalie Lagamayo had nine kills to go along with four digs and two aces. Maleena Felshaw chipped in with four kills, four digs and three aces.
Sage Bundy had two kills, one ace and one dig while Juanita Garcia added three digs and Taylor Marshall two digs and one kill.
The Lady Bulldogs had an 81.1 percentage on serves for the match to go along with 49 digs and 29 kills.
Virgin Valley’s victory came on the heels of a 3-0 loss to arch-rival Moapa Valley in Overton. The Lady Pirates were victorious by scores of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-7.
Ludvigson had eight digs and six assists for VVHS while Felshaw recorded three kills and two digs and Lagamayo had three digs, one kill and one ace.
Virgin Valley will host defending state 3A champion Boulder City Thursday at 6 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to North Las Vegas on Monday for a match against Somerset-Sky Pointe before hosting the rematch with Moapa Valley in the regular-season finale on Wednesday (Oct. 24) at 6 p.m.
