The Mesquite Rotary Club held its Second Annual 5K Glow-in-the-Dark ‘Fun Run’ and the 12th Annual Ball Drop on Sept. 29 at the Rising Star Sports Ranch.
The Fun Run winners were: First Place: Azzario Sepulveda from team TDS; Second Place, Dave Rossi from team Rising Star Sports Ranch and Third Place, Jonathan Rossi from team Rising Star Sports Ranch. Winners of the Twelfth Annual Ball Drop will be announced at a later date.
The Rotary members signed up close to 100 runners but only 77 showed up at the starting line; the same number of participants they had for the First Annual “Fun Run.”
Mesquite Rotary Club President Keith Bulhhalter said, “We are very pleased with everybody who came out tonight for a good cause. They’re not just supporting Rotary, they’re supporting the youth in the community through us.”
Rotary is a service organization helping to make improvements in its local service area, with emphasis on assisting the local food bank, helping to ensure all young students can read by the third grade, recognizing and supporting Mesquite’s terrific safety officers and support staff, sending students in both the eighth and eleventh grades to leadership camps, and many other youth initiatives.
With a worldwide network of over 32,000 clubs and 1.2 million members, Rotary works toward the elimination of polio throughout the world, helps provide clean water and proper sanitation in countries where resources are lacking, provides wheelchairs for the crippled and maimed individuals, as well as helping provide children with needed medical support.
