Friday night’s football game between VVHS and Pahrump Valley is a matchup of two teams who had big leads in their first game of the season. The major difference is the Dawgs won and the Trojans lost despite those leads with minutes remaining in their games. The Trojans dominated the Lowery Buckaroo’s leading by a score of 32-13 in the third period and 40-27 with 2:30 remaining in the game but could not finish losing 41-40. The Dawgs were fortunate to hold off Clark in their win. Pahrump will not make that same mistake against Virgin Valley as they field one of the most experienced team on both sides of the ball. The Trojans return 15 0f 22 starters from last year’s squad. Leading the Trojan double wing offense are dual senior running backs Nico Rodriquez and Dee Brown. Throw into the mix RB Casey Flennory who had three T.D.’s in last week’s loss will create problems for the Bulldog defense. There should be few passes in this game as both sides will keep it on the ground. The Trojans ‘Jet Offense’ could cause confusion for the Dawgs as the double wing features a lot of movement across the line. The Bulldogs need to be patient and stick to their positions but hustle to the ball. Leading the multiple set defense for the Trojans who return eight starters from last year’s squad are their line backing core and defensive line. Bulldog coach Matt Woods will counter with a ground attack to chew up the clock and keep the Trojans offense on the sidelines. Expect a low scoring game with the home team having a slight advantage. The game could be decided by the kicking game. Should be a dilly, well worth traveling to Pahrump.
