Eight Virgin Valley High swimmers qualified for the 3A state meet by turning in strong performances at the recent Regional swim meet held at Buchanan Natatorium on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas.

Kallie Graves, Kiley Hill, Sydney Ludvigson and Taylor Waite qualified for state in three relays while Hill and Waite also qualified individually to help guide the VVHS girls to a third-place finish. The Lady Bulldogs totaled 194 points finishing behind meet champion Boulder City at 623 and runner-up Adelson School with 259.5.

On the boys’ side, Ethan Leavitt, Jared Memmott, Keaton Ogden and Shane Zarate qualified for state in two relay events as VVHS placed fifth with 154 points. Boulder City won the team title with 540 points.

Graves, Hill, Ludvigson and Waite placed second in the 200 meter medley relay with a time of 2:12.68 and also finished second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:56.64. The four also placed third in the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:26.85.

Individually, Waite finished second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.75 while Hill was fourth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:25.71.

Meanwhile, Leavitt, Memmott, Ogden and Zarate finished fourth in the boys’ 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.74. They placed fifth in the 400 freestyle relay at 3:59.40.
