Monday evening April 30, just before 11:00 PM, Mesquite Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at a local apartment complex, with smoke and flames showing. A request for mutual aid from Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire Dept. and Clark County Fire Dept Station 71 (Bunkerville) resulted in a response of additionally needed resources.

On arrival, crews found a second story apartment with smoke coming from eaves and heavy smoke and heat conditions inside. Firefighters quickly began an offensive fire attack while Mesquite Police Dept. assisted with evacuation of residents from surrounding apartments. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished preventing the spread to adjacent apartments.

All occupants safely exited the apartment. One person was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, two small breed canines perished in the incident.

Mesquite Fire & Rescue administration contacted both the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army to assist those displaced by the fire. The Eureka Casino graciously provided two rooms to those  immediately needing shelter.

The cause of fire is currently under investigation. Due to fire and smoke damage the apartment was left vacated and secured pending inspection and repair.
