The Virgin Valley High School men and women’s Track and Field teams placed second at a five way meet at Del Sol High School Wednesday April 25. Moapa Valley won the women’s meet with a score of 134 to the Dogs 104. Host Del Sol placed third with a score of 54 followed by Laughlin’s 36 points and Lake Mead Christian with 22 points. Winning firsts for the Dogs were, Kaden Lee in the high jump, Nikita Eskelsen in the long jump and 4X100 meter relay team of, Emily Teerlink, Eskelsen, Rainee Brito and Julia Ramirez. Eskelsen and Brito placed second and third respectively in the 100 meter, dash. Other point winners for the Dawgs were Sarah Walters third 800 meters, Viviana Vega-Archuleta third 1600 meters and 3200 meter, Eskelsen  third in the 100 meter hurdles, Ramirez second 300 meter hurdles. Others adding points to the Bulldogs totals were Emma Wilson third in the pole vault and Jaylee Whipple third in the high jump, Hailey Thornley second in the triple jump.

On the men’s side the Dawgs placed second to the Pirates with a score of 86 points to Moapa’s 119 points. Del Sol finished with 80 points, Lake Mead 50 points and Laughlin’s 33 points.  Winner’s for the Bulldog men were Ty Bryant 300 meter hurdle, Taua Fiso shot put and Justin Dahn, Braden Bingham, Will Barnum and Broghan Bingham in the 4X100 meter relay. Other point getters for the Dawgs were Dahn third 200 meters, Bryant second 110 meter hurdles, Jeremy Perkins third in the shot, Braden Bingham and Barnum second and third in the high jump, Broghan Bingham second in the pole vault, Bryant and Braden added seconds in the triple and long jumps. The track teams will next compete at the Grant Bush Memorial Meet at Moapa Valley on May 4. “Although we finished second, our team competed well,” said Coach Gary Hartman.
