Virgin Valley High’s girl basketball team defeated the Chaparral High, 54-37, on Feb. 6 in the Dawg House clinching a home game in the 3A Southern Conference playoffs. The win gave the Dogs a 9-3 league record and 13-11 overall.

Despite committing 25 turnovers, the Lady Bulldogs pulled out the win. The Bulldogs led 10-6 after one period, as the teams played sloppy ball. The Dawgs came to life offensively in the second period behind a balanced attack to take a 25-12 lead. Seven Bulldogs contributed to the score. Savannah Price had six points at the break to lead the Dawgs attack.

Nathalie Lagamayo and Alexis Boatright led the Bulldogs in the third period with six and five points respectively as the Dawgs finished the period with a 40-25 advantage. Lagamayo continued her hot hand scoring 10 of the Bulldogs 14 points in the final quarter of play.

The Bulldogs won easily, setting up a playoff game Tuesday night Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. on the hill. Lagamayo led all scorers with 18 points followed by Boatright with 11 points. The Bulldogs will not know until Saturday who they will open against. A win Tuesday sets up a semi-final game at Del Sol High School on Thursday at 2 p.m. A win moves the team into the championship game at 4 p.m. same venue.
