Did you know that February is Responsible Pet Owner Month? This month celebrates all of us who are responsible pet owners and all who take the care of animals seriously. During the month of February we celebrate our pets with love and kindness, not just for this month but for our whole lives. They love us unconditionally. Help support a happy life for all pets by spreading the word on how to be a responsible pet owner.

Common Responsible Pet Ownership Guidelines

  1. Spay and neuter you pet.
  2. Provide proper identification for your pet through microchips and/or ID tags
  3. Provide your pet with proper nutrition.
  4. Train your pet well.
  5. Provide proper veterinarian care for your pet, including routine checkups and following proper vaccine protocol.
  6. Provide a safe environment for your pet to live.
  7. Provide proper exercise for your pet.
  8. Love your pet. Unconditionally all the time, just like they love you.
  9. Provide proper grooming for your pet. Brush, bathe and, brush those teeth.
  10. Clean up after your pet. Scoop the poop!

City of Mesquite Residents

Any person owning or possessing a dog or cat over the age of six (6) months must obtain, and thereafter continuously maintain for the life of the animal, a license issued by the city or its designee.
Pet Licenses can be purchased at local vet clinics or the city shelter for a fee of six dollars
($6.00) for each animal.

A current proof of rabies vaccination and proof of sterilization is required to license each pet. Please provide a copy of your rabies and spay/neuter certificate at time the license is purchased.

Pet Licenses are good for one calendar year and must be renewed after January 1st of each year. A current proof of rabies vaccination must be presented each time.

Featured Dog- Phantom

Phantom  was found as a stray. He is a beautiful rust/cream coloration and has one blue and one golden  colored eyes. He is a very gentle dog. He is learning to play with toys and does well on leash. He is people oriented and wants to be with you.

 

Other available dog-

Kong Shepherd/lab puppy. Can be adopted but won’t be able to leave the shelter until he is older.

 

Featured Cat- Tammy

Tammy came to shelter as a stray. Brightly colored calico coat. She is very friendly, but she is not used to being cuddled or held for long periods. She does like to be petted and brushed. She is learning to play with toys. She should not go to a home with young children .

All animals will be spayed or neutered prior to leaving shelter and receive 1 year rabies vaccination and city license. Ages are approximate.
