The Mesquite Fine Arts Center would like to recognize Patricia Nay as the June Artist of the Month.
Nay has been painting, sculpting and drawing since she was a young child and has created art in those mediums, in some manner since.
Raising four children and working left her little time for art though she did put aside some time here and there for classes and when she couldn’t attend classes she read about art. She has always appreciated all forms of art.
Nay developed her skills through the years working in oil, acrylic and watercolor painting. When she retired at age 70, she finally had time to experiment with new mediums and found polymer clay. She now focuses on creating three dimensional wall art in this new medium.
Nay uses the colored clay in her art work. She doesn’t use paint in her creations instead she mixes the colored clay to create her custom palette for each picture. She then uses palette knives and other small tools to apply the clay. Once the picture is complete she bakes it to set the clay. After the baking or curing process the art work is suitable for indoor or outdoor décor.
Nay has found this medium very exciting to work with and is delighted with her exploration of its possibilities. She is constantly learning and developing new techniques for each piece and say it has truly taught her the meaning of having fun with her creations.
Nay’s work is on display now through the end of June at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, 15 W. Mesquite Blvd. Hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission is free.
