The Virgin Valley High School baseball team had little problem with the bats of the Sunrise High School Miners Thursday afternoon as three Bulldog hurlers held the Miners to one hit during the 9-4 win. Starter Cade Anderson pitched four hitless innings for the win. The Bulldogs sent up nine batters in the first two innings to take a 9-0 lead after two. Bulldogs Layton Woods and Logan Felix had singles in the Bulldogs five run first inning. The Dawgs added four runs in the second to take a 9-0 lead. Dallan Tanner drove in two runs for the Dawgs. Anderson was replaced by Dakota Mumford to begin the fifth inning. Mumford pitched well for two innings despite experiencing control problems. The Miners added a run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to make the final score 9-4. Dillon Fuqua relieved in the seventh inning to get the save. Woods led all hitters with two hits. The win gives the Dawgs a 4-2 record early in the season. It is the best start for the Bulldogs in many seasons. “We came out strong in the first two innings but went flat after that,” said Bulldog coach Justin Goodsell. “We can’t keep our bats on our shoulders and let good pitches go by. We still have a long way to go.” The Bulldogs next hime game will be with the Mojave Rattlers on March 22.
