Lloyd Van Ewles, 71 beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away March 13, 2017 at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah. He was born August 27, 1945 in Salina, Utah to William Blaine and Ruth A. Sorenson Ewles. He was the youngest of 5 children.

Lloyd grew up in Salina and attended North Sevier High School with the class of 1964. He moved to California as a teenager to work for his older brother, John, in his construction business. He worked for over 40 years as a heavy equipment operator for Tri State Ewles Materials. While living in California he met Linda Hunter. They married on June 26, 1965 in La Mirada, California. They became parents of an only daughter, Laura Jean, who they dearly cherished. They divorced in 1989.

Lloyd was blessed with an extra family when he met his lifelong partner; Alice Sorenson.   Alice and her family became an important part of his life and he enjoyed time spent with them. Lloyd and Alice made their home in Beaver Dam, Arizona and enjoyed 27 years together. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2012.

Lloyd was an expert mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He loved hunting and fishing and spending time in the mountains. He always looked forward to the deer hunt and the time spent with his brothers and family at the deer camp in Gooseberry. He and his brothers had a close bond. His enjoyed watching Nascar and even raced stock cars for many years as a young man in California. He was a member of the LDS Church. Lloyd’s greatest accomplishment was staying sober the past 16 years.

Lloyd’s greatest love was spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. He loved them all and would do anything for them. He especially enjoyed watching his two little great grandsons grow.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; long-time companion, Alice Sorenson; his oldest sister, Beverly Ewles Turner; his brother-in- law, Ronald Turner; grandson-in-law, Ricky Isidro; two nephews, Kurt and Kasey Ewles; and two step children, Tammy Sorensen Seely and Jeff Sorensen.

Lloyd leaves behind his daughter Laura Jean (Fred) Veater; grandchildren, Jessica Isidro, McKinnin (Britnee) Lloyd, Kasey Lloyd; great grandchildren, Ricky and Anthony Isidro; brothers and sister, John (Lola) Ewles, Carol Woolsey, and Courtney (Sherrie) Ewles. Fred’s children, Brandina Glenn, Denver (Kandice) Veater, Delainya Veater and Valeesha Veater. Also, Alice’s children and grandchildren Kathy Sorensen, Amy Williams, Crissy Williams, Trent Seely, Troy Sevy and Shane Sevy; his girlfriend Jeannie Beacham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday March 18th at 12 noon in the Salina, Utah Stake Center, 98 West 400 North, Salina, Utah. A private family viewing will be held Friday, March 17th from 6 – 8 at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main, Salina, Utah. Friends may call Saturday morning prior to the funeral from 10:30 – 11:30 at the Salina Utah Stake Center.

Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah
