The Salvation Army Mesquite is participating, once again, in sending kids on a wonderful adventure to summer camp. They’ve reserved 4 slots in their Discovery Camp for kids ages 7-12 but they need your help.
Captain Lisa Smith, Salvation Army Director is reaching out to the community to help four Mesquite children enjoy the benefits of The Salvation Army Discovery Summer Camp.
Camp is scheduled for July 24-28. The cost of camp is about $300 per child. Captain Smith is asking for donations of any kind to help offset the costs.
Captain Smith suspended the program last year due to changes made in the administration of the Mesquite offices. Services were still available all along but some of the extra programs such as camp needed to wait until she had all her oars in the water. She feels that they’ve once again navigated toward solid ground and ready to step forward with programs that benefit the children, but she needs a little support from the community.
According to the Salvation Army, “Each summer, children from lower-income families enjoy fresh air, exercise, activities and new friendships and experiences at annual Salvation Army Summer Camps.”
Many children will never have the pleasure of spending a summer night singing around a campfire with new friends. But you can help change that. Help The Salvation Army send children to overnight camp in Heber, Arizona for a fun, unforgettable experience this summer. Transportation will be provided by the Salvation Army.
The camping experience is more than just a pleasant vacation. Children learn new skills and self-reliance; trained counselors who understand their emotional needs and problems help them to mature.
Camp Activities include nature adventures and scouting, arts and crafts, music development, and sports.
The camp is Christian based so the children will attend chapel while at camp.
Discovery Camp is held in Heber, Arizona at The Salvation Army’s Camp Ponderosa Ranch.
