The Mesquite Regional Sports and Event Complex will see some familiar faces in June as Golf Mesquite Nevada and the Rising Star Sports Ranch team up with The Golf Channel to bring back the World Long Drive Competition to Mesquite June 3 – 6.

Titled as “The Clash in the Canyon,” the event will be the first of three World Long Drive Events to air live on The Golf Channel.

“We’re very pleased to be a part of bringing this back to Mesquite,” said Cody Law, executive director of Golf Mesquite Nevada. “We have established this new partnership using the Rising Star as the host resort to help bring Mesquite back to the national platform.”

According to a press release from The Golf Channel, Mesquite previously hosted the World Long Drive Championship and a number of qualifying events dating back to 1997, including the World Championship being staged at the MRSEC from 2008 to 2012. This will mark the first time ever that a Long Drive event from Mesquite will air live on television, and also be the first time that the Women’s Division will air live on TV.

The World Long Drive last appeared in Mesquite in 2014.

“Mesquite is a location that for many years has maintained a deep connection to Long Drive, so it’s fitting that the creation of this new event in partnership with Golf Mesquite Nevada will return the sport to such a familiar place in its history,” said Phil Piazza, senior vice president, programming for Golf Channel. “The new event also will present the current group of emerging personalities in the sport with an opportunity to compete in the same market as the generation of Long Drivers having laid the foundation before them, and showcase their skills in a live setting from Mesquite for the first time ever.”

The live broadcast for Mesquite’s leg of the competition will air on Tuesday, June 6 at 5 p.m. The following live broadcast will be for the Mile High Showdown in Denver on June 25 with the final broadcast of the World Long Drive Championship airing from Thackerville, Oklahoma, on Sept. 5 and 6 at 6 p.m. each day.
