Is this the breakout year for Virgin Valley High School Bulldog baseball? Bulldog coach Justin Goodsell hopes so. “We hope to be more competitive this year,” said Coach Goodsell. His optimism is based on the fact the Dawgs return 14 from last year’s team including eight starters that went 2-12 in Sunrise League play and 6-19 overall. The 3A realignment this season should help the Dawgs as the league is more equally balanced. Returning for the Dawgs are juniors Dillon Fuqua, Cade Anderson, Jaden Perkins, Easton Jensen, Dallan Tanner, sophomore Kayden Peterson and senior Layton Woods. The Dawgs were mainly a sophomore laden team and should benefit and mature with another year under their belt. Goodsell will count on Fuqua, Anderson and Peterson to improve dramatically on the mound. Other returning letterman from last year’s squad, are Joshua Abbot, Logan Felix, Dakota Munford, Alex Brandes and Nathan Cannon. Adding to the mix is big Chace Henderson who adds maturity to the team plus some experience from the J V team. Boulder City went 14-0 last year in Sunrise League play and should be the league favorite along with Chaparral.

The Dawgs open pre-season play on Thursday in the annual Cactus Classic against Elko High School at 7pm before pool play begins Friday morning at 9am against Emory. They finish pool play at 5pm against San Juan. The top four seeds battle beginning at 8am Saturday.
