They’re giddy in the early morning light and can’t wait to get started. They ooh and awe over all the toys, even playing with those they can before they get their hand slapped. They compare their prized gifts with the person holding one next to them.
Nope, it’s not the kids. It’s the adults, who for the 12th year in a row, participate in the largest Christmas toy donation program in Mesquite.
About 530 golfers took part in the Golf Fore Kids tournament held at four local golf courses – Falcon Ridge, where it all started, Canyons, Palms, and Conestoga. All golfers brought a brand-new toy worth $50 or more as their entry fee. In total, it adds up to one grand and happy Christmas for Mesquite kids.
“All of our registration process is online now,” Rob Wursten, one of the Golf Fore Kids founders said. “People started asking us back in February when they could sign up for the tournament. We opened up the registration on Oct. 1 and filled all four courses in 27 days. It was a phenomenal response.”
As the golfers teed off, Mesquite Police and Firefighters loaded up trailers full of toys and delivered them to the CasaBlanca Event Center which was donated by Mesquite Gaming for the after-golf festivities. All golfers received a free lunch as part of their entry fee. There were also raffles for great prizes donated by many businesses and individuals in Mesquite that help raised even more money for even more toys for even more kids.
