There is great optimism in the Dawg Pound as the Virgin Valley High School Gridiron Gals begin workouts for the 2016-2017 flag football season. The Lady Dawgs went 10-4 in conference play and 16-6 overall last season. The Dawgs will have one of the most experienced teams in 3A Division play as they return 13 of 14 offensive and defensive starters from last year’s squad including All-Sunrise Conference first team players Madison Cheney, Dylan Bryant, Kallie Graves and Hannah Haviland. Coach Joey Bowler and staff greeted 70+ athletes for freshman, J.V. and Varsity squads Saturday Nov. 12. “This is the most talented group of kids since we began the program,” said head coach Joey Bowler. “We are quick and I expect big things from Kallie, she passed for over 3500 yards and ran for 1200 yards.” The Gridiron Gals open preseason play hosting Legacy High School on Nov. 30.

Boulder City High went 14-0 in conference play and 21-0 overall but lost 10 seniors from last year’s squad including all-everything Jeanne Carnell. Del Sol High went 11-4 in conference play, one game up on the Dawgs, but lost 12 seniors from that squad. SECTA is always strong and well coached. “No doubt were one of the favorites,” added Bowler. “Coach Hartman (Gary) and new coach Nelson (Robert) make my job easy. Throw in Sandy (Bryant) and were not lacking for good coaches.”
