James Alfred Gilmore September 24, 1941 – August 19, 2016

James Alfred Gilmore, 74, passed away peacefully Aug. 19, 2016, at his home in Mesquite, Nevada.

Jim was born September 24, 1941, in Providence, Rhode Island to Raymond Justin Gilmore and Louise Gilmore.

Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, Faye Gilmore.

Jim was raised in Southern California, the eldest of seven children and graduated from Gardena High School. He was employed by Bekins Moving and Storage as a district manager and ultimately opened his own company, Pioneer Packing, in Denver, Colorado. After having success in business, he and his wife, Faye Gilmore, retired and relocated to Mesquite, Nevada, to enjoy their retirement and golden years.

Jim is survived by his wife, Faye; his children Jeffrey(Carol) Gilmore and Jerri (Rudy) Barrios, of Southern California; and stepsons Tony, Bob, and Steve Ambrose; brothers Raymond, David, and Mike Gilmore; sisters, Melinda Nelson and Maureen Casaubon.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Louise Gilmore, and his brother Robert Gilmore.

Jim and Faye enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends.

Jim loved country music, being a gentleman-rancher, camping, fishing, building model trains, and playing card games. Jim was an avid and accomplished golfer and enjoyed sharing his love of the game with all who shared his passion.

Jim was a generous man with his time and shared his good fortune with others.   He was quick witted, sharp minded, intelligent, and possessed a kind and gentle heart. Jim had a great sense of humor and had a joke for every occasion. Jim always phoned family on their birthdays letting them know he cared and remembered their special day. Weekly he phoned family and friends to “just check in,” on their well-being. Jim will truly be missed by his family and all of those who knew him.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, September 3, 2016, at La Virgen de Guadalupe Catholic Church, Mesquite, Nevada at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Virgen Valley Community Food Bank in Mesquite.
