Ask any employee or even Bill Evans, owner of the Beaver Dam Station in Beaver Dam, AZ, when the Arizona Lotta Market will be finished and the pat answer is usually, “It’ll be done when it’s done.” Building the market located on Old Highway 91 has been a long process but one that is surely showing signs of progress.
Gas pumps have been in for months but were surrounded by just the poured concrete pads with a lot of dirt and rocks around it. The dirt and rocks are gone and in their place is a smoothly paved parking lot which still has yet to be marked. Curbs made from recycled railroad ties are being set against the entrance to the store just in front of the canopy.
Landscaping boulders line the road in front of the parking lot but smaller landscaping work is still needed to clear out weeds and add to the appearance of the new store to come.
The store, when opened, will provide a great service to residents and travelers from Utah to Mesquite or even Las Vegas. The market will provide a much needed gas stop between St. George and Mesquite. Presently there are no gas station services available in Beaver Dam or anywhere on the Arizona Strip. It is only eight miles to Mesquite but coming from St. George through Gorge and being unprepared has caught more than a few motorists over the years.
Residents are patiently waiting for the market to open and several are expressing their excitement in seeing the workers there in the wee hours of the mornings continuing to work toward the day when it’s finally done.
