For nearly a year, Mesquite has patiently waited for a Farmers Market to come to Mesquite Plaza and the first one proved so successful that organizer Chris Reif has already signed on more vendors for the second one to be held June 24 at 312 W. Mesquite Blvd. from 4 – 8 p.m.

“Everyone who did commit to the last one did show,” Reif said. “Most of them have agreed to return but we also have two more major produce vendors as well as food vendors lined up for Friday, plus many more.”

Reif told the MLN on June 16 that Waffle Love will be among the returning vendors as well as the produce providers from before and that they plan on bringing more than what they did the first time. “They have verbally committed to come with large trucks this time,” he said of the Las Vegas farmers.

In an update on June 20, Reif confirmed that there will be an indoor portion to the Farmers Market, located in the two suites nearest to Mr. Pawn. “We’re putting in a new air conditioning unit this week and are revamping the restrooms,” he said.

Due to the extensive heat this week, the indoor portion of the market looks to be a good place for attendees to escape the heat while viewing the many vendors who are anticipated to show.

Other vendors lined up also include the canning, honey and craft vendors as well as some local businesses such as the Women’s Defensive Weaponry Club and Mystic Treasures. Businesses within Mesquite Plaza are also anticipating being open and look forward to the spike in business as they did last time.

Another feature Reif hopes to add is some live entertainment, although he was reluctant to comment on who he has lined up for June 24. “I will say it is someone very impressive. It’s not set in stone, but we are hopeful that it will work out.”

Reif also told the MLN that future markets will continue tentatively on the second and fourth Fridays starting in July. People can follow all updates through both the MLN’s community calendar as well as the Farmers Market Facebook Page.
