Bubba Petrick said he didn’t sleep much Monday night anticipating his first round from the forward tees. Someone predicted that he would shoot a 70. The prediction was not far off as Petrick cautiously played his front side with a two over par 37. He started the back nine with an easy birdie four on the par five 10th. He also birdied the par five 16 on his way to a 38 and a first time round of 75. “I putted very well today and now that I know what club to play on the number one hdcp hole, 13, I should have a great time watching my handicap go down this summer”, was how Petrick summed up his first forward tee round. Andrew Yeh shot two under par 70 for medalist. He had an eagle on the par five first hole and birdied hole four to record a one under 34 on the front. On the back his birdies on 12, 16 and 18 rewarded him a one under par 36. Rick Scholl had three birdies for his 78 and would have been much lower but for a nine on the par five first hole. Petrick was rewarded first place low net with 65. The odd observation of the day was turned in by Ben Bishop (85) as he recorded 12 fives with six on each side.

Jim Smith was rewarded the “red badge of courage “ award by his fellow players for falling into a bush while looking for his partners ball.   Because he is recovering from several years of back surgeries he was not able to get up and his fellow players had to break several branches to get at him. In the club house with blood dripping from both arms and both legs he was overheard to say “ I had one “bloody” round today. Andrew Yeh won medalist honors with a three birdie round of 71. Frank Thomasino is beginning to find his game once again and shot 37-40-77 for second low gross and first place low net at 63 moving him up into 4th place in the Fed Ex Tournament. The team of Tim Bergstrom, Tom Durenberger, Bubba Petrick and Frank Thomasino led all birdies with eleven.
