The number of visitors coming to Mesquite in April continued a four-month trend of hitting six figures that began in January. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) reported that 124,809 people came to town, a 9.5 percent increase over April 2015.
The rest of the report is just as positive including gross gaming revenues that climbed 7.9 percent from last year’s numbers with $11.051 million collected in April. Mesquite is the only area in Clark County that reported positive percentage growth in this category.
Gaming revenues in all of Clark County were down 3.9 percent. The Las Vegas Strip dropped 1.5 percent in gaming revenues while both the downtown area and the Boulder Strip plunged double digits, -13.5 percent and -18.9 percent respectively. Laughlin reported a -3.9 percent drop in gaming revenues in April.
The LVCVA report said the declines were due to “the last weekend’s slot drop folding into May.”
Total occupancy for April’s report increased 4 percent to 88.5 percent. Total room nights occupied also increased 3.3 percent to 45,454 while the average daily room rate increased 6.3 percent to $61.88.
All of those numbers helped the revenue per available room (RevPAR) jump by 11.3 percent to $54.76 over April 2015.
The average daily auto traffic on I-15 at the Nevada Arizona border also increased 1.5 percent to 25,491 vehicles. That compares to a 7.1 percent decline on I-15 at the Nevada California border and a 1.4 percent drop on all major highways leading into southern Nevada.
Visitor volumes in Laughlin were up 5.9 percent while the average daily auto traffic on Highway 163 into Laughlin fell 2.7 percent to 4,907 vehicles. Airplane passenger arrivals and departures rose 13.1 percent to 21,979.
Total occupancy rates in Laughlin rose 4.0 percent over April 2015, average daily room rates were up 3.9 percent to $54.15, RevPAR jumped 10.3 percent to $37.58 and total room nights occupied increased 8.3 percent to 208,616.
