MESQUITE, NV (Leisure Services Dept.) – This year’s local, sectional, and team pitch hit and run competitions have been exciting for Brooklin Montoya. Brooklin was the 11-12 year old all-around champion at the local competition in Mesquite, which qualified her to compete in the Las Vegas Sectionals where she competed with others from Southern UT. and Southern NV.
In Las Vegas, she competed against other great athletes that made the sectionals by winning their local competitions in their areas. Miss Montoya was notified two days ago by Major League Baseball that she won the Las Vegas Sectional Competition. After comparing her scores to several other sectional winners from Southern California & Southern Nevada, she was chosen as one of the top 3 scorers and invited to compete in the Team Championship in San Diego, California at the San Diego Padres Major League Baseball field “Petco Park”. This is the first time that the City of Mesquite has ever had a young lady invited to compete in the Team Championship for the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run.
She will be recognized as the 11-12 year old winner at the beginning of the San Diego Padres vs Washington Nationals game on Saturday June 18, 2016. With over 75,000 participants in her age group nationwide, Brooklin is now one of 30 that can qualify for the National Championship but will only be asked to participate if her score is one of the top 3 of the team winners in the Major League Baseball market.
The announcement will be made in July and if Montoya is chosen, she will be heading to the MLB All-Star game in San Diego, California where she will compete for the national title. Good luck Brooklin!
