Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a telephone scam.  Many residents and non-residents of Mohave County have received calls from someone claiming to be Lieutenant Durst from the Mohave County’s Sheriff’s Office.  The caller is threatening to issue a summons or an arrest if they don’t pay their fines immediately.

Mohave County Sheriff’s Office does have a Lieutenant Durst on staff.  Lt. Durst said, “That he has received numerous calls today from people wanting to pay their fines to prevent an arrest or people calling to verify the source of the call and the problem.”  According to Lt. Durst, a call he received from a lady in Ohio said that she still has an area code of 928 and she told the caller to come arrest her in Ohio and the caller hung-up on her.

Another caller also indicated that Detective Elsbury delivered a letter to their residence or Detective Elsbury is the lawyer for Lt. Durst.

These incidents are scams as the Sheriff’s Office does not conduct business in this manner.  If you suspect fraud, contact your local law enforcement office.
