The Mesquite Chamber Luncheon held on Wednesday, May 11 was sponsored by the Mesquite Local News and featured two speakers, Dave Zeleniak and Stephanie Frehner, Operations Manager for the paper.
Zeleniak, who is known around Mesquite for growing beautiful roses and for reducing his growing physique, spoke of a different kind of growth at the chamber luncheon; he spoke of how quantitative and qualitative information can help small businesses grow.
Zeleniak can be considered an expert when it comes to analytics. Whether its roses, weight loss or business ventures, Zeleniak believes it’s all about weights and measures.
According to Zeleniak’s Executive Profile, he received undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Finance and Economics from Penn State University in 1979, and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati in 1980. Mr. Zeleniak earned a BBA in Finance, Economics and Accounting from Penn State University with high honors and is a Certified Public Accountant.
He has 25-plus years’ experience serving as CEO, COO and CFO of various technology-based companies spanning software, hardware and outsourced technology services.
Zeleniak doesn’t disappoint his audience when it comes to presenting thoroughly prepared materials with enough data to illustrate his point but not so much that his audience suffers brain overload. The information he shares in his lecture provides all of the information one needs to succeed. They just need to tailor the numbers to fit their specific requirements.
His Transformations in Business provided business owners in the top five industries in Mesquite with the quantitative and qualitative information they could gather to measure current practices and discover what areas they can improve on in their businesses.
Information presented was in Zeleniak’s seemingly favorite style, a well-laid out PowerPoint which was projected on two different screens. In past presentations Zeleniak would have a hard copy at every place setting but that was not the case at last week’s luncheon. Zeleniak did announce that he would happily provide anyone with a digital copy with just a simple request and email address of course. You can email him at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The numbers game didn’t end with Zeleniak. Frehner who also has a proclivity for analytics, spoke about a different kind of numbers game still aimed at improving business. She discussed the circulation and distribution numbers and how the MLN can help businesses get more bang for their buck on local advertising. Frehner gave statistics on how the MLN web site reaches far beyond Mesquite and how realtors can benefit by reaching individuals who are looking to move to the area. Frehner’s impressive ‘community newspaper’ numbers included hard copy circulation as well as social media which reached as far as Logandale/Moapa/Overton for hard copy and as far as Japan on the web and social media ends.
Chamber members enjoyed a wonderful lunch served by the Eureka Hotel and Casino and the hospitality of the Chamber board members. Excitement was heard throughout the Grand Canyon room as chamber board member Brenda Snell presented the new travel video to promote Mesquite which was produced by the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce in 2014. The Travel Nevada web site and the Nevada Commission on Tourism will be highlighting the video. To view the video visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZJT7aZYL6w
