The Virgin Valley High School’s first inning blues continue to haunt the Dawgs as they lost to Del Sol High School 6-5 Monday afternoon, April 11 in the Dawg Pound. The Bulldogs gave up three runs in the first inning on only two Dragon hits. Bulldog starter Cade Anderson dug himself a hole, walking two Dragons and hitting another setting up RBI singles and a 3-0 Del Sol advantage after one half inning of play.

The Bulldogs got one run back in their half of the inning, leadoff batter Jaden Perkins slapped a single over third base, moved to second on a Dragon error and scored on a ground out cutting the lead to 3-1. The Dragons put one more run on the board in the second but the Dawgs added one run of their own making the score 4-2 after two innings. Logan Felix had the big blow, a double scoring on a groundout.

A walk and steal set up a Dragon run in the third inning giving Del Sol a 5-2 advantage. The Bulldogs got back one run in the fourth on a walk to Layton Woods and another double by Felix. The Bulldogs rallied in the fifth inning to tie the game 5-5. Jairo Vallejo singled, Perkins reached first on a throwing error followed by groundouts allowing the Dawgs to score.

The Dragon took advantage of a passed ball to score the go ahead run in the top of the sixth inning 6-5. The Dawgs attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh on a walk to Perkins, but fell short as the Dragon hurler shut the Dawgs down.

Felix led the Dawgs with two doubles and Anderson, despite falling behind early, recovered and pitched well for the Bulldogs. The Dawgs host Chaparral on April 19.
