At its Wednesday meeting, April 6, the Clark County School District Board of Trustees approved building a new gymnasium at the Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite.
After months of attending meetings in Las Vegas, local residents and parents won the battle over the new gym that began last September. When more than 125 parents and students attended a public input meeting with representatives from CCSD including CCSD Board of Trustee member Chris Garvey on Sep. 4, 2015, they were all united on one thing; everyone wants a new high school gymnasium.
The CCSD Bond Oversight Committee originally denied the school’s request last fall. But parents, residents, and local school officials didn’t give up.
Now it remains to be seen how soon construction will start.
Construction will be fairly quick because the funding is derived from existing bond money and not from a new bond offering.
This is wonderful news! Positive proof that concerned citizens, who are willing to leave their front porches and get actively involved, CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! Congratulations.
