We would like to extend a sincere thank you for the show of support we received during our Third Annual Donkey Jamboree fundraising event held March 5 at the Golden West Casino. We had over 500 people at this year’s event.
The Jamboree was great fun, with fabulous music, food and a wonderful collection of raffle items. The stars of the event were rescue donkeys Elsie the spotted donkey and Buster the miniature donkey.
These two donkeys (along with three other miniature donkeys) had just arrived at the adoption center on February 24 and were anxious to meet all the people that support their welfare.
Mark Meyers, the founder of Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue (PVDR) was there from Texas to answer any questions about the organization and meet our local supporters. With Mark were Butch and Bonney two of the world famous Burro Collies who are highly trained dogs specializing in the capture and herding of donkeys.
Klaus Deubbert from the Banning CA Satellite Adoption Center was also at the event to help with questions and meet with the donkey supporters.
PVDR’s Donkey Extravaganza booths were set up housing live donkeys and showcasing gifts/memorabilia available for purchase.
Continuous showings of the newly released video, “Forgotten- the Plight of the American Donkey” was being shown in a video tent outside the casino.
Also attending the event was a larger than life sized donkey, Buster (Jake Metzger) who visited everyone, rode through town in a red convertible, and spent much of the time dancing with the crowd of people.
We would like to thank Jeannie Guttke from the Golden West Casino and the employees who put a lot of time and effort in organizing the fundraiser. Thank you just doesn’t seem to be enough.
A special thanks goes out to all our generous sponsors for their support: Golden West Casino, US Foods, Budweiser, Wirtz Beverage, Ace Hardware, Miller Lite, Johnson Bros., and Morcon.
A big thanks to Terry Caudill, Golden West Casino owner.
Live music was provided by Bottoms Up a local band. The band had the crowd dancing and singing along with the music.
The Showgirls of Mesquite, added lots of colorful feathers, sparkles and their beautiful smiles while they circulated throughout the crowd wearing their Saloon Girl costumes.
Thank you to the businesses and individuals that provided the raffle prizes. Automotive Certified Technicians, Baja Imports, Do It Best, Eureka Hotel and Casino, Falcon Ridge Golf, Golden West Casino, GS Nails, Jackie and Jim Winters, Kristen Metzger, Klasik Kloset Consignment Boutique, Mesquite Fitness, Mesquite Veterinary clinic, Nancy Bane, Oasis Chiropractic, Ready Golf & Gear, Scenic General Store, Scotty’s Bar and Grill and Saharia Salon.
Adoptable dogs from We Care for Animals also stopped to mingle with the crowd and strut their stuff. Yes, one dog did get adopted as a result of being seen at this event.
A special thanks to the many volunteers who worked to make this event a success. We appreciate everyone that shares their time helping with our events and helping at the adoption center in Scenic.
And also a big thank you to all of you that took the time to support the event. We appreciate the people that continue to follow the donkey rescue and those new individuals who will now become part of the PVDR family.
