The Mesquite Elks Lodge held its annual Nevada State Elks Major Project fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 27 which raises funds for the Safe Haven child protective services and domestic violence programs.  The event is called a “Hog Callin’.”  Over 70 Elks members were served “pork” sausage, egg casserole, and fresh fruit at the event breakfast.  More than 30 piggy banks that members used to collect spare change during the year were corralled into a special “Pig Pin.”  Willie Hixson turned in the heaviest pig that weighed in at 5 lbs. 13 oz.  All of the pigs together weighed over 121 pounds.  There were over 11,000 coins equaling $967.

The Elks wish to extend their grateful appreciation to the Bank of Nevada for allowing their coin machine to be used for sorting, counting and totaling the coins.  Without their assistance, Lodge members would have been counting coins for months.

This is just one of many community events sponsored by the Mesquite Elks Lodge.  Anyone interested in joining the Lodge can call (702) 345-2811.
