Mesquite, NV – On Friday, February 5, Mesquite Police Detectives concluded their investigation into two Mesquite residents who were actively selling and using heroin and methamphetamines from inside of their Mesquite home. In the morning of February 5, the Mesquite SWAT team served a high-risk search warrant at the drug dealer’s home. During the execution of the high-risk warrant, one of the drug dealers was safely taken into custody while attempting to flee the residence through a garage. The second drug dealer was safely taken into custody inside of the home. Officers then conducted a search of the residence, and with the help of their drug sniffing dog, were able to locate additional items of heroin and methamphetamines. Officers also located numerous used hypodermic needles and other items of drug paraphernalia.
Ryan Tucker, 27, of Mesquite Nevada, was arrested and charged with: Two counts of possession of drugs which may not be introduced into interstate commerce (meth & heroin) and 8 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jessie Ruiz, 27, of Mesquite Nevada, was arrested and charged with: Two counts of possession of drugs which may not be introduced into interstate commerce (meth & heroin) and five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Additional felony drug charges are pending on both drug dealers, once the crime lab drug tests are completed and the results made available.
To have a newspaper in a local town as small as Mesquite you would think it wouldn’t be very hard for a reporter to get the correct information. First and foremost neither one of these two have been convicted of anything, arrested yes, but they still have to go through a trial at which point it will be decided whether or not they are guilty. So to have a local newspaper sit there and call two people “drug dealers” when they have not been convicted isn’t fair nor right to either of these two. Next when these two were arrested I called the police department to see what they where being charged with and the officer I spoke with told me 5 counts of paraphernalia and possession of drugs which was for PERSONAL USE. There were no substantial amounts of any kind of drug found in their home so to label two people as drug dealers when the amount of drugs that was found was labeled for personal use is not correct at all. These two have families and friends in the community. And I myself have a child with one of these so called “drug dealers” The fact is these two have a addiction to a horrible drug that will ruin lives and that drug has made its way to Mesquite, but instead of trying to get help for them people would rather label them as “drug dealers” which could do the exact opposite of helping them. They could be denied a job, they might not be able to get a place to live if someone reads and believes this article. This paper could mess up their chance at really getting the help they need to get and stay clean. And not to mention what my daughter might be put through at school because of a false label when someone at her schools parents read this article and tell their child and that kids tells this one and that one and that one So now she will be punished for her father being no more than and addict. I personally think this article need to be corrected and state the facts not just what will catch a persons eye.
Myranda, this came to us from the Mesquite Police Department and was published as it came to us. Any issues you may have with the story needs to be addressed to the MPD please. Thank you.
Good job Stephanie. The article does end by saying both were arrested for “non interstate commerce”. To me that means personal use. Apparently they were being investigated for trafficking, but not enough evidence was found to support that claim. For that reason MPD could have worded things a little differently, that’s for sure. They could always print an update later IF more evidence is found to support their original claim.
As a recovering addict I hope that treatment and therapy are the answer to their crimes. This is an insidious disease that prison does not treat. Drugs are just a symptom. The problem lies deeper rooted. I pray for leniency and help to the addict who is still suffering.
